Last Night’s Men’s Royal Rumble Match Sets Strange Record
Every year, interesting statistics pop up regarding major WWE events. Whether it’s record breaking wins, record breaking losses, interesting statistics, or whatever, there’s always history to be made. Depending on your mood, WWE may have set some infamous history with last night’s Royal Rumble.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed WWE set an interesting record for the oldest Royal Rumble match ever. This was determined by figuring out the average age of each competitor in the match. As Meltzer discussed it, he pointed out only two WWE talents were under the age of 30 going into last night’s match that competed in it.
“Dominik Mysterio and Otis were the only two people in this [Men’s Royal Rumble] match that are under the age of 30, I mean that is freaking preposterous. This was, in fact, the oldest Royal Rumble in history, in it’s thirty-year history, so it’s nothing new. The second oldest was last year, by the way. This was the oldest Royal Rumble in history and it just accentuated the problem.”
WWE has had an issue creating new stars on the male side of the company, and last night wound up showing how some of those issues have come to light. Despite the showing of Damian Priest, Priest is still 38 and WWE needs to start looking into building talent for the long term future.
