WWE made some changes around both Royal Rumble matches at the last minute. One of them came on the men’s side when Angel Garza was pulled from the Royal Rumble. It seems like they had an idea for Garza in the match, things just got changed last minute.
This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Otis was Garza’s last minute replacement, as he was not scheduled for the match originally. He came in and performed how he did, but it looks like he took the place of a comedy spot they had planned for The Lethal Lothario. Instead of his moment, he was replaced by former Mr. Money In the Bank, Otis.
Another late change was Otis replacing Angel Garza. Otis had been advertised. Garza was there and was supposed to come in, do a comedy spot tearing off his pants, and then get eliminated right away. At the last minute, Otis was put back in, in the spot Garza was in.
Garza hasn’t been seen on television in quite some time, to the point it’s possible many fans have forgotten that’s part of Garza’s act. However, Otis is getting semi-regular time on SmackDown as part of Chad Gable’s Alpha Academy. The future looked bright for Angel Garza at one point, but now it seems like he’s struggling to get television time. It’s a shame, as he’s quite talented and charismatic.
