More Details On Steve Cutler’s Release, When He Can Sign Elsewhere
Steve Cutler is currently a free agent after being released by the WWE last night. Despite Cutler just returning to television, he had earned some heat with Vince McMahon after contracting COVID-19 last month. Now, the former Forgotten Son is now a free agent, and it seems like his release is pretty standard.
Fightful Select has reported Cutler got the standard 90-day non-compete clause, which the WWE typically uses. That does mean that despite being unable to work for the next 90days, he will continue to get paid his downside guarantee. When the clauses is over, he’s free to sign anywhere he likes, but it was stated the door is open for a potential return down the line. Considering the lack of shows running due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cutler is probably better off in this position with the non-compete clause, as he’s more likely to make more money sitting at home than he is trying to work the independent scene right now.
Cutler has spent most of his professional career under the WWE umbrella, having spent the last 7 years as part of the company after making his pro debut in 2013. However, the countdown begins to May, where Cutler will be free to appear anywhere he likes.
