Court Date Set Over Lawsuit Regarding WWE And Randy Orton’s Tattoos

WWE is heading to court, this time over someone’s tattoos.

In 2018, Catherine Alexander filed a lawsuit against the WWE over the tattoos she did for Randy Orton. She is the tattoo artist and designer of Orton’s tattoos and owns the trademark on his ink. PWInsider has reported the case will now go to court September 20th in the hopes to sort it out.

Orton stated in a declaration that he didn’t know he needed permission to display the tattoos, as he considered them a statement of his own personal expression, but they are indeed copyrighted by his designer. A further report by Alexander states she had contacted the WWE over the tattoos in 2009 and they offered her $450 for the designs.

WWE works to have a lot of control over their stars when it comes to their image. It’s been said superstars have to clear haircuts, and Matt Cardona revealed Vince McMahon gets final say on entrance gear at WrestleMania. It’s all part of a corporate machine to keep as much control over their stars as possible, and now this case shows even tattoos need approval from the company or at least control over the appearances of stars.
