WWE Continuing Roman Reigns And Kevin Owens Program Due To Lack Of Depth
WWE has struggled with a lack of top stars, but the roster has yet to fully develop them. It’s wound up creating a situation where a feud that looked ready to end at Sunday’s Royal Rumble will be continuing.
Friday night on SmackDown, Kevin Owens showed up and hit the Stunner on Roman Reigns, seemingly continuing a feud that looked like it could have decisively ended at last Sunday’s Royal Rumble. However, with a lack of stars at the top of SmackDown, it looks like their feud could continue. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about it as he feels they simply don’t have anyone else to face Roman.
“They idea is that they’re trying to elevate someone — they gotta! They have Big E, but Big E is in the IC Title thing and I don’t think he’ll be wrestling Reigns any time soon. Yeah, it’s been bad ever since Reigns came back. They didn’t really even push Owens. They just threw Owens in that spot because they had nobody else and then they kept him in that spot because they got nobody else. They got nobody else unless they pull the trigger on Edge.”
The going plan at the moment is Edge against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, but right now they need someone to carry the torch until the match is made. While it seems like Cesaro is on an upward trajectory, it will still take some work to make it happen and make it credible, so it could take some time before that match looks to even be in play. Either way, WWE has spent so much time booking in a certain way that there’s a lack of depth at the top of the card. Unfortunately, now it’s starting to show.
