Jeff Cobb Discusses Working This Weekend’s Bloodsport Event
Saturday is the next edition of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport, and one of their newest competitors this year is Jeff Cobb.
The New Japan star and former Lucha Underground standout has always had the skillset for these events, having a background in amateur wrestling, but is only now making his debut for these shows. Cobb had a chance to talk about how scheduling conflicts made this difficult in the past to the RRBG podcast, and how his ROH contract affected his chance to work one of these shows in 2019.
“I’ve always wanted to do it, but the schedules never really lined up. I was trying so hard, it was a last-minute decision for the one in New York for WrestleMania weekend. I was trying hard to get on that, but at the time I was under contract with Ring of Honor and they were iffy about it because we had a big show at Madison Square Garden. They were worried if I got hurt [at Bloodsport] that I couldn’t make the Garden. I understood where they were coming from. I went and supported. It was a great show. I was up on the balcony watching and every match I was like, ‘that should’ve been me, could’ve been me,’ but good things come to those who wait. Lo and behold, I’m finally here.”
Cobb has been having a hell of a year so far. Despite losing to Shingo Takagi at the Tokyo Dome for this year’s WrestleKingdom, Cobb remains a NJPW mainstay and remains one of the company’s top stars as part of Will Ospreay’s Empire faction.
