Glenn Jacobs’ Knox County Health Department Comes Under Fire For Missing COVID-19 Vaccines
The COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues through the country, but as the federal and state government work to get as many people vaccinated as fast as possible, Knox County, TN is under fire.
Knox County, the place Glenn Jacobs is the mayor of, is facing issues after it seems 975 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have gone missing. Knox County confirms the shipment, but has no record of receiving them.
According to WATE out of Knoxville, those 975 doses equal 1.7% of all vaccines distributed in the county and more than 56,000 doses have been administered in Knox County, but it’s still an issue as these vaccines are still very critical.
According to the article, Knox County has mainly used the Moderna vaccine in their early stages of vaccinating their population, and it features a different process in storing and maintaining. KCHD Director Martha Buchanan believes the box that contained the doses was mistaken for dry ice and discarded. It was an accident that still is troubling, given the need for as many doses of the vaccine as possible.
Buchanan also believes that due to the boxes with the vaccine and boxes with dry ice are received on an alternating schedule, the box arrived out of the normal order, and has asked the state to investigate. On at least a positive note, no one is expected to miss their second dose due to the lost shipment. You can read Mayor Jacobs statement below.
