Backstage News On Roman Reigns’ Elimination Chamber Match
SmackDown took an interesting route this year for the Elimination Chamber pay per view with Roman Reigns to defend the Universal Title against someone who wins the SmackDown Chamber match earlier in the evening. The storyline reasoning is that Roman Reigns is obligated to defend his title at the pay per view, but not necessarily the Elimination Chamber. The match was now set up for an Elimination Chamber match featuring Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and King Corbin.
Ringside News has reported the reason Reigns isn’t defending the title in the Elimination Chamber has to do with his creative influence he’s gained since starting to work with Paul Heyman. The site asked their source why Roman wasn’t in the match, they were told “They weren’t getting him in that chamber. No chance.”
The match is pretty brutal, even if they’ve taken steps to soften it up. The original metal grates on the outside now have padding, but those matches usually end up being pretty brutal. They were also told “Everyone gets hurt in a match that people only watch to see injuries.” Considering WrestleMania is right around the corner, Roman might just be looking to stay safe, but it’s his influence hard at work here.
