Maria Kanellis Says Kevin Owens Is Still Sorry For Bringing Them To WWE
Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis signed to the WWE and many people thought they were destined for big things considering they had bypassed NXT in favor of the main roster. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way anyone expected and they were quickly de-emphasized before eventually leaving the company as part of the COVID-19 cuts in April of last year.
Maria Kanellis talked to the DropKick podcast and revealed that WWE did have intentions to make Mike a huge singles star. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out and since then Kevin Owens is still apologizing to his old friend for fighting to have them signed.
“Kevin Owens was fighting for us to come into WWE, he still apologizes, but the plan was to build Mike as a singles wrestler. Somewhere along the way, and I have a feeling it has a lot to do with him coming out with his addiction and then me announcing that I was pregnant. I think they just kind of took a step back from us and everything they wanted to do with us, but I say this to Mike all the time that the second week we were there, we were already dead in the water.”
Kanellis did a lot for the company, including a stint with 205 Live to revive his WWE run, but inevitably things didn’t pan out. Now Bennett is back in his “home” of Ring of Honor, even if it might not be for long. You can watch the interview below.
