Sasha Banks Says Vince McMahon Denied Her Release In 2019
Following WrestleMania 35, Sasha Banks took extended time off following losing the Women’s Tag Team Titles with Bayley. Following that, she spent the better part of the year on the sidelines and it turned out that there was a reason.
Sasha Banks was looking to be released from the company.
Banks was the most recent guest on the Broken Skull Sessions, and she admitted she approached Vince McMahon about wanting to leave the WWE. As we know now, Vince declined to give her the release, but he also told her to take 30 days to think it over, though she wound up taking much longer.
“I asked to leave and Vince was like, ‘no,’” Banks laughed. “He said no. He said I’m gonna give you 30 days to think about it. And I took more than 30 days.”
Banks eventually returned, but it’s interesting to wonder what would have happened had Vince agreed or if she hadn’t changed her mind. Banks has been on fire since her return and remains one of the company’s most decorated, accomplished, and popular women on the roster but who knows if she would have caught fire anywhere else.
