Why WWE Needed To Replace Keith Lee In The United States Title Match At Elimination Chamber
Last night’s Elimination Chamber pay per view had a lot of last minute changes. The Raw Women’s Title match was canceled due to Lacey Evans’ pregnancy and Keith Lee was pulled from the pay per view last minute. It resulted in the company having a fatal four way on the pre-show to add a third to match.
Inevitably John Morrison was added to the match and on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about to get to where they had to go with the show, the match absolutely needed a third person to replace the injured Keith Lee.
“Now you know why they didn’t do a singles match and why they were adamant about it because Keith Lee not being in it made a singles match, but that just wouldn’t work for what they were trying to do, so that’s why they had to get Morrison in the match, or somebody. Could have been anyone in that third man spot, because they needed.”
While it’s unknown if the original plan was for Lee to win the United States Title, it was eventually clear they needed to get the title off of Bobby Lashley to get himself where the WWE wants to set him up for the future. And now with the WWE seemingly planning out something big for Lashley at WrestleMania, he’s well on the way.
