Shayna Baszler Says Vince McMahon Told Her To Show Her Work Rate On Pay Per View
Last year saw Shayna Baszler arrive on the main roster and she found herself instantly at odds with Becky Lynch. While Baszler’s hard hitting blend of wrestling and MMA worked well in NXT, there was a lot that changed when she arrived on the main roster. However, talking about her arrival on the main roster, it seems like Vince McMahon had some advice for The Submission Magician.
Baszler was a guest on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast and revealed that Vince McMahon was “so nice” and gave her some great critiques, especially on how to adapt her in-ring style to the main roster.
“When I started wrestling on Raw he gave me a talk that was like, ‘Look you have something different to offer, you have a unique look. The thing you have to start learning now that you’re on Raw is that your work rate is shown on pay-per-view and at NXT so don’t get so hell-bent on weekly Raw TV because that’s where we build the story for the work rate that you can do on a pay-per-view.’ So he’s like, ‘You have this thing. I don’t want you to do any pro wrestling, got it?’”
Baszler wound up looking incredibly strong in her early days on the main roster, winning an Elimination Chamber where she wound up eliminating every single person. She had a lot more to say, including about how she promised to make Vince McMahon money. She’s done well so far, now in her second reign as half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Her next defense is scheduled for March 3rd when her and Nia return to NXT to face Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez.
