Big E Reveals He Was Almost In The Shield
While The Shield shocked the world when they debuted in 2012, people often forget only a few weeks later that another arrival from NXT happened.
John Cena had been the victim of the Shield’s debut, and a month later Big E arrived at the side of Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee, attacking Cena as well. While these two events had been separate, during Big E’s WWE 24 special he revealed there had been a point where The Shield could have been a four-man team with the original trio and Big E.
“My first feeling of getting called up was 2012. I was doing loops. Any collective period of days is a loop. It’s Roman [Reigns], Seth [Rollins], Dean [Ambrose], and me. There was some thought of bringing all four of us in together as a group. Obviously, that changes, they go on to international fame as The Shield. I was told, ‘You’re going to be with Dolph and AJ, on your very first night, you’re going to attack John Cena.’ I’m thinking, ‘Man, this is it.'”
CM Punk revealed that at one point, Kassius Ohno was considered for The Shield as well. While it’s unknown the truth of either of those, it certainly bears wondering how different the group would have been with either the different three person dynamic or even the fourth.
