British Superstars Clash In The First Round Of The New Japan Cup
Two of British Wrestling’s biggest superstars are set to clash in this years New Japan Cup, as NJPW Young Lion Gabriel Kidd faces of against Zack Sabre Jr on the 7th of March, the winner of the match could potentially face Will Ospreay who faces Hiroyoshi Tenzan in the first round.
Zack Sabre Jr has been regular fixture in NJPW ever since 2017 and is prominent part of the Suzuki Gun faction and is a former IWGP tag team champion along side stable his mate Taichi. Sabre Jr is also a former New Japan Cup winner having won the competition in 2018, he then went on to challenge Kazuchica Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight title unsuccessfully.
Gabriel Kidd was invited to join the New Japan LA dojo in 2019 by Katsuyori Shibata having competed on the UK independent scene for several years prior, he would not make is debut for NJPW until 2020. Kidd ended up training in the Japanese Dojo system in 2020 due to the global pandemic, impressing many in his matches against fellow young lions Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura as well as teaming with NJPW legends such Yuji Nagata and Satoshi Kojima.
The New Japan Cup Kicks Off on the 4th of March, with Satoshi Kojima vs Jeff Cobb and Tetsuya Naito vs Great O’Khan, there are plenty of great clashes to look forward to in the first round, including Kazuchica Okada vs Shingo Tagakai and Juice Robinson vs Kenta. The New Japan cup final takes place on the 21st of March and there will plenty of incredible matches on route, you can catch all the action on NJPW world.
