Despite the best efforts of The Miz to weasel out of it, a new WWE Champion was crowned on Raw tonight.
After asking for a week to prepare last Monday on Raw, Miz tried unsuccessfully several times over the course of the night to get out of a defense against The All Mighty Bobby Lashley. His first attempt had him feign stomach issues caused by “stress” related to his title defense. After WWE official Adam Pearce told him he had no choice but to defend, Miz simply grabbed the WWE Title and ran out of the ringside area, allowing Lashley to win via count out.
Shane McMahon ultimately made the decision he would give Miz one final chance to actually defend the title or be stripped of the belt and the title handed to Lashley, which had Miz show up for the main event of the night. Shane McMahon ultimately decided the only way to prevent Miz from running was to name the stipulation of a lumberjack match. With Miz having nowhere to go, Lashley ultimately put his full nelson Hurt Lock on Miz who tapped out and lost the title.
