Possible Reason WWE Stretched Lashley/Miz Angle All Night On Raw
Last night’s Raw featured Bobby Lashley winning the WWE Championship from The Miz. It took all night and a lot of scheming on Miz’s part until Shane McMahon and Adam Pearce got sick of it. He faked a stomach ache to delay the first time the match was supposed to start, he ran off with the WWE Title the second time around, and it took the threat of being stripped from the championship to get him to the ring. After trying to get himself DQed, the match eventually became a lumberjack match which forced Miz to stay put and the match to eventually happened. The delay was all for a reason apparently.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about WWE’s move with thsi story over the course of the whole night. He says WWE’s intention was to keep fans engaged and hope they could draw in new fans over the course of the night as they built toward the match.
“We’ll see how the rating is tomorrow. All those segments over and over again, you know in their mind why they did them, they thought they were gonna stretch [fans] out because they didn’t want — like, you can stay through hour one to get your World Title match, ah but you’re not getting it. Hour two, you’re getting your World Title match, but hour two [not getting it], well that was their strategy, so we’ll see if it works.”
It was an interesting tactic and we’ll have to see if fans bought into it, but the match eventually happened with minutes left in the show. Ratings will be available on the site as soon as we get them.
