NXT wanted to deliver surprises on their first episode on Tuesdays and they certainly did.
In a shock title change, Kushida defeated Santos Escobar for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Escobar issued an open challenge to anyone from the back and Kushida arrived to answer the challenge. The former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion had a hard fought match with the Emperor of Lucha Libre and shocked the CWC and him to become the champion.
Escobar ends at 314 recognized days, as WWE recognizes the beginning of his reign on June 3, 2020 when the episode of NXT where he won the title aired. This is Kushida’s first reign with the title.
