Frankie Kazarian Discusses Working As The Suicide Character In TNA And His Idea For The Character
While most characters get a start in television and movies before becoming a video game, Impact Wrestling’s Suicide was the exact opposite. Suicide was a character used in the TNA Impact video game that the company eventually turned into a gimmick for someone in the company.
While many people have donned the bodysuit and maske, the original choice was Frankie Kazarian. However, at times Christopher Daniels also portrayed the character during the same timeline. Kazarian spoke about portraying Suicide on the Wrestling Perspective podcast, where he talked about what it was like to play the character and having a vision of trying to make the character akin to New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Tiger Mask.
“Yeah, I was the original [Suicide]. If you look at the early pictures, there is a way to tell which one is me and which one is Chris Daniels. But I’m not going to give that secret up [laughs]. There’s an interesting way to tell. I had a lot of ideas for that character, we both did, that I thought would make it really cool. I wanted to make Suicide like TNA’s version of Tiger Mask and have it be a legacy character but those that were in charge at the time at TNA didn’t share that creative vision. The character ultimately kind of — it’s back now, I guess, but it dies, it comes back, it dies, it comes back.”
The character itself has had its own evolution as it was altered to become Manik, though Manik became more known for being the alter ego of TJP. Now these days, the character is often portrayed by Kaleb/Caleb Konley. While it’s not quite the legacy character Kazarian wanted, it still finds its way back to Impact Wrestling.
