WWE surprised a lot of people when they released Billie Kay yesterday. She had just competed at WrestleMania, and many fans were entertained by her recent performances in backstage segments on SmackDown. In fact, she’s often been considered one of the more entertaining acts dating back to her time with the IIconics with the also-released Peyton Royce.
However, one of her biggest detractors was one of the company’s most powerful people. Fightful Select has reported Kevin Dunn didn’t “get” Billie Kay, going as far as to say that he “saw a ceiling” for her in the company. This is the definite reason Kay couldn’t find a footing despite often being popular with fans online.
It’s not the first time Dunn has done this. Before Becky Lynch had her break out in the WWE, Dunn had worked to cut down her promo time as he wasn’t a fan of her Irish accent.
Kay was a popular figure in the locker room, with many people in the WWE wishing her well. Sadly, one of the most important people in the WWE was not one she was popular with.
