Update On Ownership Of Samoa Joe Trademark Following His WWE Release
WWE is very big on trademarking everything under their umbrella, and has gone out of their way to even trademark names of their Superstars. Whether they used the name before the WWE or not, the names have been trademarked and it makes for an interesting situation if they leave the company.
This brings us to Samoa Joe, who used the name before the WWE. However with all those trademarks, can Joe still be Samoa Joe in life after the WWE?
Heel By Nature has reported Samoa Joe owns the trademark to his name, so he is free to use it how he wishes. WWE never filed a trademark on his name, allowing him ownership of it.
Samoa Joe: Seanoa, Nuufolau Joel (Samoa Joe’s real name) owns trademarks for his in-ring name under a number of different classifications. He will be able to use the name in the future.
Everyone else will be looking at new names going forward thanks to WWE owning trademarks on their name, but we will have to see how things go. For now, fans of Samoa Joe need not worry about what he’ll be called going forward.
