Backstage News On Kalisto’s Release
The most recent wave of WWE releases included Kalisto, a Superstar that had been used fairly regularly until over the last year. Injuries played a part of that, but even after his return a breakup with his Lucha House Party teammates didn’t lead anywhere. In fact, it turned out that he was the one who pushed for that.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported Kalisto pulled to get removed from the Lucha House Party. Lince Dorado agreed and figured it would work “to a certain degree” and sell some merchandise even if they didn’t get pushed.
Vince McMahon eventually greenlit the idea and the gimmick carried on without anyone saying anything about a push. Kalisto eventually grew unhappy with the gimmick and he wanted to get out of the stable’s “prelim jokes.”
Kalisto kept asking out of the group and was continually told no. But Dorado asked if he and Metalik could be the team since Kalisto wanted out anyway, so they shot the angle for the split.
They never had plans for Kalisto to feud with Dorado or Gran Metalik. WWE simply took him out of the group to “pacify” him. Dorado and Metalik continued to remain on television and Kalisto just wasn’t used before his release last week.
