Zombies in WWE, What’s Next?!
Last night, zombies made an appearance during the latest WWE PPV WM Backlash. No one ever expected this and was one of the most talked about subjects last night on social media. Could this be the beginning of something in WWE ?
For context, the zombies were part of a tie-in with the upcoming Netflix movie Army of the Dead (Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Dave Bautista). The zombies were lumberjacks on the lumberjack match between The Miz and Damien Priest. People talked more about the zombies than the match itself.
The match itself was forgettable and did no one favors at all, especially Damien Priest, who was supposed to be the one to look the best after this mess. This will most likely win worst match of the year award.
Unless you are a massive WWE fan, no one in particular liked this match. WWE is now on the business of creating hours of content and the quality of it doesn’t really matter in the scheme of things. Our opinions of it don’t really matter and this could be the beginning of WWE commercializing matches.
This type of tie-ins could help WWE image when the right time comes if some one like Disney ever decided to purchase WWE. The collaborations between WWE and other properties could be a major thing coming soon.
Other promotions have done similar stuff recently, like AAA and their deal with Marvel that has Lucha Libre versions of some of their iconic characters on AAA shows. So far, we seen characters like Venenoide (Venom), Leyenda Americana (Captain American), Arcano (Spider-man) and Terror Purpura (Thanos).
It will be interesting to see if WWE will do more of these type of tie-ins with other franchises in the future. Maybe a Fast and The Furious tie-in match could be next considering John Cena will part of the next installment of this movie franchise. Maybe we’ll see this happen again on the next movie starring Dwayne Johnson. The possibilities of this happening again are very likely and we are just getting started.
