Many NXT Superstars Say They Did Not Feel Comfortable Or Safe Around Drake Wuertz
News broke earlier today that WWE has released controversial NXT Referee Drake Wuertz.
Drake’s release comes after about a year’s worth of rumors and stories about his behavior backstage, along with tons of blowback online after his statements on many controversial topics and issues.
According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp via Fightful Select, there were many backstage in NXT who were hesitant to go on the record and speak about Drake Wuertz over the past few weeks. It was also said that many NXT Superstars didn’t feel comfortable or safe around Wuertz. It was also stated that the general idea is that Drake had “nuclear heat brought on himself for the better part of a year.”
The report noted that the “nuclear heat” included WWE officials having to “warn” Drake numerous times about attending events without wearing a mask while not being vaccinated. It was also reported that Drake was warned about “attempts for political plays,” and that he had been trying to position himself backstage in order to obtain certain roles within the company, and that he was willing to put heat on others in order to get there. This was said to have been attempted “numerous times.”
“The roster was well aware that Drake Wuertz had been trying to position himself for certain roles within the company, and was willing to try to put heat on others to get there, and attempted to numerous times.”
Sapp’s report also stated that “no fewer than ten” NXT had told him that they did not feel comfortable or safe around Drake. He had also been known to “loudly” criticize wrestlers in the locker room for being vaccinated or getting a flu shot.
