Hikaru Shida remains one of the best pro wrestlers in the AEW women’s roster right now. However, recently, AEW Spanish announcer Willie Urbina mocked Shida’s accent and was caught doing so on FITE TV.
After a lot of backlash, Urbina was fired from his position as an AEW announcer. AEW President Tony Khan spoke on the post-Double or Nothing media scrum, where he said that he personally gave an apology to Hikaru Shida for Urbina’s horrific actions.
“I didn’t think there was any excuse. I was not happy. Afterwards, I heard what was said and having our commentators involved with what was said about her, who I also apologized to, I thought it was best for the company to make this decision.”
We sincerely hope Shida doesn’t have to go through something so horrible ever again.
