Lio Rush Reportedly Signed A Contract Earlier This Year With A Promotion That Isn’t AEW
AEW held their annual Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View over the weekend from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. One of the matches on the card was the Casino Battle Royale, which featured a mystery man as the final entrant in the match.
The final participant in the Casino Battle Royale who drew the Joker Card, was former WWE Superstar Lio Rush, who made his debut with the company.
During the Double Or Nothing post show media scrum, I asked AEW President Tony Khan about Lio Rush’s debut and if he had signed a deal with the company. Khan stated that Rush was working on a handshake deal with AEW, and that he believed we would be seeing more from Lio Rush with AEW in the future.
It now appears as though the reason Rush is only working on a handshake deal with AEW is because he recently signed a contract with another promotion. According to a report from PWInsider, Lio Rush has recently signed a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling. It was stated that Rush may have signed a contract with NJPW as early as late April of this year.
Lio Rush, who debuted for All Elite Wrestling over the weekend, signed recently with New Japan Pro Wrestling, PWInsider.com can confirm. One source believed Rush may have signed as early as late April.
We are told that New Japan has given their blessing for Rush to work for AEW and MLW and that he’ll continue to be a regular on NJPW Strong and beyond for the promotion.
You can see Tony Khan talk about Lio Rush’s debut at Double or Nothing and his arrangement with AEW towards the end of the video below.
