Jungle Boy’s Push Reported To Have Originally Taken Place When Chris Jericho Was World Champion
Jungle Boy won the Casino Battle Royale this past Sunday night at AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV earning him a future World Title match. It was announced on last night’s special Friday Night episode of Dynamite that Jungle Boy will face Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship on June 26th.
Jungle Boy appears to be finally getting his push that apparently was supposed to have taken place when Chris Jericho was still World Champion, but plans changed once the pandemic hit.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Jungle Boy’s win in the Casino Battle Royale and upcoming World Title match was discussed. It was stated that AEW had previously wanted to push Jungle Boy when Christ Jericho was the World Champion but then the pandemic happened, causing the company to hold off and his push. It was noted that AEW wanted to wait for crowds to return before pushing Jungle Boy.
“One of the things with him was, a year ago — I remember a year ago — it was like, ‘we’re gonna push him, but we’re gonna wait for crowds,’ and now here’s crowds and they went all the way, right away. He’s always been, I mean it’s not like he’s not on the list to be pushed. I mean the reality is that if there were crowds, you know if was gonna do a program with Jericho when Jericho was world champion. That ended up not happening because we had a pandemic. Now Jericho is long gone as champion.”
