RIP NXT

The end of the NXT we all knew and loved is coming to an end, according to several reports. There are several key factors that took NXT from the hottest WWE brand to be seen as a disappointment by Vince McMahon and him starting to have doubts about Paul Levesque (Triple H) as his successor.

Despite what Vince McMahon says on investor calls, he indeed saw AEW as competition and for some weird reason he thinks Ted Turner is behind it, which is not true. NXT failing to destroy AEW and losing by a landslide the Wednesday Night Wars. Levesque failed miserably and the consequences of that loss are starting to appear.

This may sound controversial, but Vince McMahon is doing the right thing by restructuring the PC and the talent they are seeking for the main roster. Levesque had the policy of signing the top indie talent, who are great workers but don’t have the physical appearance Vince McMahon seeks on his independent contractors. McMahon will finally get what he is looking, instead of the indie wrestlers he hates.

Not only is the PC getting major changes, but NXT as well. Several reports indicate of NXT transitioning into a proper developmental brand for WWE. How deep this changes will be, only time will tell but with the recent releases WWE made we can make a good idea what the future of NXT will be.

Business-wise, all these changes happening on NXT and the PC make sense. WWE was spending millions of dollars on the PC and NXT with the goal of creating new stars for WWE and it’s more than obvious that the PC and NXT failed to do so. Will Vince McMahon restructuring create more stars ? Very unlikely, but at least he’ll have access to wrestlers that fit his criteria of a star instead of Levesque’s.

NXT signing all newsworthy Indie wrestlers is officially over, as well as, Levesque’s plans of global expansion of the NXT brand on several key territories like Japan or Mexico. NXT UK might be on the chopping block very soon too.

All these recent failures don’t help Paul Levesque. He’s not going to get fire or anything like that, but there’s a good chance someone else get the position of head booker of the main roster he was once considered the favorite to take not long ago .
