WWE Looking For Shorter Refs To Make Superstars Look Taller
WWE is famous for making some weird production choices. They were ridiculed by fans for their list of banned words. They have been embroiled in controversy over Crown Jewel.
Another interesting weird thing about WWE production has now emerged. To make their athletes bigger, WWE is trying to attract shorter referees. That’s why the company is hiring shorter interviewers like Kayla Braxton. Dave Meltzer Wrestling Observer Newsletter dropped the news in this weekly issue.
“In another way to make talent look taller, there is a directive to hire shorter referees.”
With the directions of hiring bigger developmental talent and giving them more of a push on NXT 2.0 TV instead of just good workers, it seems WWE believes this is the way to make some ‘larger than life’ stars – to literally make them look larger than they already are.
Will that work? In today’s day and age, combat sports have proven size is less important than it used to be, but people still loved Fury vs Wilder which was two heavyweights going at it, so only time will tell.
The verdict would seem to be that legitimate heavyweights/giants do have a place, and yes they can be stars, but the size is not the be-all-and-end-all when it comes to getting over.
