Attacker Charged With Attempted Assault on Seth Rollins
In a follow-up to yesterday’s news brief, more details have been released on the attack on Rollins during last nights Monday Night Raw broadcast.
According to Cultaholic.com, The New York Police Department has charged Elisah Spencer, 24, with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs.
The attacker rushed Rollins from the stage and onto the ramp immediately following Seth’s match against Finn Balor. Referees and backstage officials managed to detain Spencer and escort him from the arena before he was detained by the NYPD.
ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reported that “Elisah Spencer, 24, has been charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (disrupting live sporting event) for his attack on WWE wrestler Seth Rollins during the Raw television show Monday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, per the NYPD.
“Per police, Rollins suffered swelling to his lip, but refused medical attention.”
On a personal note, I understand that wrestling can oft blur the lines between reality and fiction, and one can become heavily invested in stories and characters. That said, “It’s still real to me, dammit” is not a ethos one should actually live by. The talent in any promotion are still living, breathing, actual people, same as you or I. Do not become so invested into a character that you lose sense of self or reality and attempt to actually fight a wrestler; you are not attempting to assault them, you are literally attacking an actual person. If you’re seeking clout, catching a charge is not a good way to go. The talent are off limits.
