On Tuesday, Johnny Gargano and Kyle O’Reilly seemed to say their goodbyes to NXT. They were both in angles that seemed to be meant to take them out of the picture. Kyle lost in a steel cage match to Von Wagner, with a brutal post-match attack. Following Johnny’s speech, which was set to close the show, he was beaten down by Grayson Waller. Once the show went off the air, both Johnny and Kyle were pictured saying goodbye to the crowd in an extremely emotional moment.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has now reported that Gargano’s WWE contract will expire at midnight, making him a free agent.
The report states, “Fightful Select has learned that Johnny Gargano’s WWE will officially expire, and he’ll be free to work anywhere he wants. As his deal is expiring, there isn’t a non-compete attached to it, and he could appear on any televised program. Gargano has been private about his decision backstage, but that some knew that his contract was coming up as far back as a year ago. We’re told that WWE made repeated efforts to sign Gargano to a new deal over the past few weeks, but Gargano opted for free agency.”
Johnny Gargano is currently on his way to becoming a dad. His wife, Candice LeRae, is due to give birth in February 2022. It can be assumed that this will play a role in his decisions moving forward in his wrestling career.
