NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16 – Night 1 Results – 1/4/22
New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 16 kicked off early this morning with Night 1 of action from the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. This year NJPW announced that their annual Wrestle Kingdom event would be a three night affair, with the final night being a joint show along with Pro Wrestling NOAH.

- 19-man New Japan Ranbo – Final Four will challenge for the Provisional KOPW 2022 Trophy on night 2
Chase Owens, Cima, Minoru Suzuki, and Toru Yano are the finalists and advanced to the Four Way match tomorrow night - Yoh defeated Sho (with Dick Togo) by pinfall
- Bullet Club (Kenta, Taiji Ishimori and El Phantasmo) defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi & The Mega Coaches (Ryusuke Taguchi and Rocky Romero) by disqualification
- United Empire (Will Ospreay, Great-O-Khan, and Jeff Cobb) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, Sanada, and Bushi) by pinfall
- Katsuyori Shibata defeated Ren Narita by pinfall
- NEVER Openweight Championship Match
Evil (with Dick Togo) defeated Tomohiro Ishii (c) by pinfall to become the NEW NEVER Openweight Champion - IWGP Tag Team Championship Match
Chaos (Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi) defeated Dangerous Tekkers (Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.) (c) (with Miho Abe) by pinfall to become the NEW IWGP Tag Team Champions - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match
El Desperado (c) defeated Hiromu Takahashi by pinfall and retains the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match
