Cody Rhodes Contract Situation Called “Mere Publicity Stunt”
Cody Rhodes is one of the pivotal figures responsible for the creation of All Elite Wrestling and has put a lot of work into making the company what it is today. While still maintaining a backstage presence in a creative and production role, Cody has continued his wrestling career with the company as well.
For about a year now, Rhodes has received a lot of unwarranted backlash and heat from fans. Rhodes himself has been leaning into this in recent months.
It was reported yesterday that Rhodes has been working for the company without a contract for a few weeks now and is officially a free agent. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, it was said that a top-ranking AEW official informed Meltzer that Cody Rhodes’ contract situation could be a mere “publicity stunt.”
After the news of Codys Contract situation broke, speculation had started to run rampant of many fans questioning if we would be seeing Rhodes make an appearance for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble. On recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer called the speculation of Rhodes’ potential participation in the 29 January WWE pay-per-view the “weirdest thing” that he’s ever heard. Meltzer laughed off the rumor and is saying he doesn’t expect to see Cody at Royal Rumble.
