Kamaru Usman Undergoes Hand Surgery, Out Till July
UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has undergone hand surgery for a fracture that occurred in the camp prior to his last title defence vs Colby Covington at UFC 268. Usman sustained the injury three weeks out from the bout but did little to slow Usman on his way to a Unanimous Decision victory over Covington. Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz stated to ESPN that he would be ready to go for International Fight Week in July at UFC 276.
When Usman returns, his next opponent is not clear. Abdelaziz has floated the idea of Usman moving up to Middleweight while Leon Edwards is considered the number one contender at welterweight, however with Edwards electing to sit out and wait, he could potentially be leapfrogged by Khamzat Chimaev, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal or Colby Covington.
