Beneil Dariush Avoiding Surgery, Starting PT For Broken Fibula
UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush is looking to avoid a major surgery on the broken fibula that took him out of this weekends UFC Fight Night Main Event. Brett Okamoto of ESPN tweeted out the news on Tuesday morning.
Per Dariush himself, it appears he has visited up to four physicians regarding his broken fibula and while one advised surgery, the other three opted for physical therapy instead. No timeframe was given for his possible return to the top of lightweight but avoiding surgery should speed that timeframe up substantially as Dariush looks to return to stake his claim for the UFC lightweight title. Originally scheduled to go five rounds with Islam Makhachev this weekend in a fight that was set to establish the next contender following Justin Gaethje’s challenge at Charles Oliveira’s lightweight title, Dariush is now looking at a lengthy lay off before he has his chance.
