New Announcements for ROH Supercard of Honor and Beyond
Ian Riccaboni took to Facebook Live along with the ROH Matchmaker in the chat to drop a few more surprises, reveals, and guests for the upcoming Supercard of Honor event in April 1 in Dallas, Texas.
We kicked things off with a talent announcement as Ninja Mack will make his Ring of Honor debut at Supercard of Honor. Mack made his GCW debut in April of 2021, and has made a name for himself in the promotion, recently putting on critically acclaimed matches against Speedball Mike Bailey, Blake Christian, Jack Cartwheel, Dante Leon, and many more. All four of those previously mentioned performers were mentioned at one point or another by fans in the chat as well. We shall see if anything comes of it.
Riccaboni also announced that Alex Zayne would be making his return to ROH, and that his opponent would be announced at 8 p.m. EST, following the Facebook Live stream. Flashing forward to that announcement, ROH revealed Tuesday that Zayne would be taking on the debuting SW3RVE!
Another talent announcement confirmed that Joe Hendry would also be at Supercard of Honor, and that they would be taking match suggestions into account for him. Hendry himself in the chat specifically mentioned Claudio Castagnoli, as did a number of other participants. The ROH Matchmaker did mention that they were looking into Claudio at this point, perhaps to stem the tide of comments requesting him.
There were also announcements that went outside the ring as well, as ROH confirmed that none other than Denise Salcedo would be in attendance at Supercard of Honor in a special guest role, at which point she joined the Facebook Live stream to confirm the news. Though they did not mention specifically what her role would entail, she mentioned how excited she was to finally be making her Ring of Honor debut and that her favorite match of all time was Joe vs. Kobashi.
Outside of those major announcements, the stream was notable for a few other smaller bits of information.
***Riccaboni did reveal that “a very popular former ROH star…is in contract negotiations to sign for a championship bout against whomever emerges at Supercard of Honor with the ROH World Championship.” Let the speculation begin!
***In addition to that particular rumor, Riccaboni responded to an ongoing list of former ROH talents, saying, “ROH has an open-door policy, so if you’ve seen someone in ROH before, I would believe that there’s a good shot that you might see them again at some point.” However, he did reference the Honor No More group currently active in Impact Wrestling as one possible reason that some Impact contracted performers might not be so inclined to try to work with ROH. Whether this is a storyline reason to explain away a lack of Impact involvement or simply a red herring remains to be seen. The ROH Matchmaker also confirmed “(w)e are looking for the best young talent that has never competed in a ROH ring.”
***Speaking of talent to never appear in ROH, Brian Myers was mentioned, and Riccaboni relayed that Myers at one point said ROH was one place that he wanted to work but never was able to do so.
***Once again, the ROH Matchmaker promised a new ROH logo and “a new look all around,” and that there would be merchandise available with the new logo on April 1, as well as the return of meet-and-greets at the event.
***In other news coming from the stream, the company revealed that Ian Riccacboni and Cary Silkin will be hosting a special episode of Ring of Honor television this weekend, highlighting the best of the five ROH Hall of Fame inductees—The Briscoes, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, and CM Punk.
***Not just limiting themselves to announcements for Supercard of Honor, we also received confirmation that ROH will return to the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on April 10 for a TV taping.
