Jim Ross Wasn’t Keen On Orange Cassidy’s Gimmick At First
Jim Ross is definitely a voice that has a far reach when it comes to the wrestling business, so normally when he speaks people listen. Apparently, this was not the case when it came to one AEW star’s gimmick.
On Wednesday morning, Tony Khan Joined Busted Open Radio for an Interview. During the which, Khan was asked by co-host Tommy Dreamer about AEW homegrown talent that has exceeded expectations. One of the stars that Khan Brought up was Orange Cassidy.
He would go on to explain how veteran commentator Jim Ross was not too high on Cassidy’s schtick.
“I’ve never told this story before and I don’t know if either one of them would mind, but I’ll be honest with you guys. In the spirit of doing a lot of interviews on the road to Revolution, you guys are the guys I always talk to . We were in a production meeting in the first year and JR not under his breath like said something about how stupid the whole thing was, and I said in front of everyone because he called me out in front of the room I said back Jim this is getting over and it’s doing ratings every time and we’ve barely scratched the surface of what the guy can do and he’s actually a good wrestler I think you should give him a chance and talk to him because he is actually an intelligent wrestling person once you get to know him.”
Khan would go on to state that Cassidy is a draw and he brings in numbers in both viewership and in merch. It’s obvious that JR has since warmed up to Orange Cassidy.
