Jonathan Gresham Wins wXw 16 Carat Gold 2022
Whilst most of the wrestling world’s eyes were on AEW Revolution, on the other side of the Atlantic, yesterday also saw the conclusion of one of Europe’s biggest annual Tournaments in the wXw 16 Carat Gold Tournament. Which saw current ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham lifting the trophy at the end of the night.
16 of the best Independent wrestlers from around the world, over 8 different nationalities were represented including; America, Canada, Germany, France, England, Switzerland, Hungary and Japan.
Although the competition started with 16, only one competitor could become the 16 Carat Gold 2022 winner, in the end it came down to current ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham and current wXw Academy coach Robert Driesker.
Driesker had made his way to final after defeating Fuminori Abe in the first round, Progress World Champion Cara Noir in the quarter finals and Lu Fisto in the semi-finals. Jonathan Gresham made his way to finals after defeating Bobby Gunns in the first round, Peter Tiahnyi in the quarter finals and Shigehiro Ire in the semi finals.
The two competitors battled back and forth for around 15 minutes as the wXw locker room surrounded the ring and cheered them on. Gresham would eventually come out on top despite the size advantage of Driesker and despite being hit with two Driesker bombs, Gresham would eventually come out on top thanks to a running forearm allowing him to pick up the win by pinfall.
