Winner Take All: The Beast Returns In Vegas
Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns seem to be destined to come across each other over and over again in WWE until one of them walks away from wrestling. They’ve faced off in several high profile matches, beginning at Wrestlemania 31 and most recently going one on one in Saudi Arabia, but there wasn’t a clean finish as the Uso’s had interfered and now with all the carnage that has gone down between Brock and Roman, along with Heyman, have webbed a story for us to enjoy. A lot are not happy with the WWE Championship being forced into the storyline, but all in all I believe this match to be one of the best storylines WWE have put out in recent memory and yes, at times it has been overbooked but at times its also brilliant, and in this particular chapter of Brock vs Roman, it began at Summerslam 2021.
Following his loss to Drew Mcintyre at Wrestlemania 36, Brock stepped away from the WWE for an extended leave of absence during the Covid-19 pandemic and it was viewed as a matter of when, not if “The Beast” would return to the WWE and he did so at Summerslam 21′ where following Roman Reigns’ victory over John Cena, Roman began to mock Cena, Here Comes The Pain’s iconic first few notes began to play and the entire stadium erupted. This is one of those moments where the entire crowd is sucked in, the commentators are sucked into it and it was hard not to be. Nearly a year and a half without one of the biggest stars in the industry, and you could tell how big of a star Brock continues to be just by that reaction alone.
While the star of this moment was obviously Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman sold it like champs. Roman’s smirk turning to a glassy eyed stare and Heyman freezing up and then hiding in the corner begging Roman not to piss Brock off. There’s a certain look that one should have on their face when Brock Lesnar is suddenly in your face and looks like he wants to eat you and the best example of that is when Brock Lesnar returned as Seth Rollins opponent for Battleground in 2015. Seth looked completely down, kept slowly moving backwards like he was cornered by a bear in the wild. Roman had the same look, but with a lot less acting involve. Roman had several moments in 2021 where he’d beat someone and then the next guy in his path would return, including Edge, Cena and of course Lesnar, and everytime Roman sold the shock and look of like “c’mon man”‘. We also got to see the seeds begin to plant of Heyman truly being on Roman’s side, he’s utterly terrified. All in all I think this segment, this return is one of the best shot moments WWE have had in an era where Kevin Dunn changes camera angles on a whim.
