WrestleMania Doesn’t Feel Special Anymore
WrestleMania is wrestling’s biggest show, it’s Super Bowl, but it doesn’t feel like it anymore. This is not a recent thing but a combination of factors.
Fans complain about the involvement of celebrities on WrestleMania, but this is not not something new. Just go back and watch the first WrestleMania. While having celebrities on WrestleMania is nothing new, but it’s a fair critic, WrestleMania should be about the wrestlers and resolving the biggest stories WWE has been telling. Celebrities can help get attention to wrestling but if you’re product is bad, you’re not creating new fans at all and making the whole thing useless.
I think a major problem has to be the booking in the last decade. WWE doesn’t push new stars and it’s all about the part timers and Roman Reigns, anyone besides them are not important and that’s a huge mistake. Part timers will go on and do other stuff until they come back, but the regular wrestlers will work every week and end up looking like a geek. It doesn’t help when he are getting Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar yet again.
WWE is a nostalgia based promotion. Nostalgia is nice, from time to time. I sometimes like to watch things of my childhood just to remember the good ol’ days, but too much nostalgia becomes boring and getting stuck in the last is not very good for multiple reasons. Look at Edge for example, his return from retirement was so exciting, but WWE butchered it so bad on that awful WrestleMania feud with Orton. Now he’s a overdramatic heel that cuts promo in the middle of darkness with a blue light in the middle.
Could WWE surprise everyone with a good show? Yes they can, we’ve seen it before these last few years but it doesn’t change the fact that creative and the booking is bad overall at WWE.
