When the strawweight title and division was first introduced, Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas were the finalists in the Ultimate Fighter tournament designed to crown the first strawweight queen and on December 12th 2014 Esparza would be crowned the winner via rear naked choke in round 3. Now, they will rematch as the co-main event at UFC 274, per Hunter Campbell, chief business officer of the UFC.
Thug Rose and “The Cookie Monster” have had separate careers since their first meeting, with Esparza dropping the belt in her first defence to Joanna Champion, with Rose having two reigns, including dethroning Joanna at UFC 217, and reclaiming her title at UFC 261, defending it vs Zhang Weili at UFC 268 and now is attempting to get that loss back. Esparza is now on a five fight win streak and will look to make it six on May 7th at UFC 274.
