Conor McGregor Wants Kamaru Usman In Return Fight
Conor McGregor has a history in the UFC welterweight division, at times discussing the idea of him possibly challenging for the belt. He’s fought at 170 pounds three times in his career, going 2-1 in the division. Now it appears McGregor is considering another trip to the division to take on pound for pound king Kamaru Usman.
In a video by The Mac Life, Conor mentions he wants to fight Kamaru Usman in his return fight.
“Myself versus Usman for the 170-pound title in my comeback fight is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute, why cut the weight? I’ve already won the 155-pound title. I got myself to a lightweight frame, but you know, I’m big now. I feel big. I feel strong. I feel healthy. I’ve got good energy. I’m coming back from a gruesome injury. I don’t want to be depleting myself. There should be no need to deplete myself.
“And I feel confident against Usman — a jab-happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he going to do? Where’s the danger here? I don’t see danger. … No one has ever obtained three titles in three divisions like I will do if we make this fight.”
If McGregor were to fight Usman, it would be an opportunity to win three belts in three weight classes. For the moment both fighters are rehabbing injuries, so we may not see the fight until late summer. Time will tell if McGregor will get his shot at the pound for pound king. Any updates on the possibility of Conor McGregor vs Kamaru Usman will be posted to Bodyslam.net as the news breaks.
