The Undertaker Discusses Match With Bill Goldberg

The Undertaker is a legend of the ring and his contributions to the business will forever be felt , but the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame inductee notoriously struggled in his later years. Before officially calling it quits, The Undertaker took on Bill Goldberg during WWE’s Super Showdown in 2019. Many fans called the matchup a dream match but with both superstars well past the prime of their careers, the match wasn’t very well received as the duos missed a number of spots and had quite a few critical botches.

During an interview with the True Geordie Podcast, The Undertaker spoke about his match against Goldberg. In the interview, he admitted that he should have used his experience to change the match’s original plan, as the botched Jackhammer nearly killed him.

“People are expecting big things because it’s Goldberg and it’s Undertaker I’m thinking, ‘We gotta pay this off.’ Maybe if I was working more often I would have recognized the fact that ‘Maybe we really should not do that.’ That was one of those instances where two inches [difference in landing], I don’t get up. It is simply just one of those things that happened. Goldberg did that move a lot of times. I don’t know if he was concussed at that point yet. Part of that is because I’m not working a full schedule at that point. I’m not kicking on all my cylinders where I can recognize that ‘Okay, maybe we shouldn’t do this.’”

Both Goldberg and The Undertaker would go on to have better matches against different opponents. While the Undertaker has now officially retired, we will have to see if Golberg is also ready to hang up his boots as his deal with WWE recently expired.
