Dana White Confirms Colby Covington Next For Chimaev With UFC 273 Win
Khamzat Chimaev has had a unique rise to stardom, with many fans looking forward to his bout with Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 as their most anticipated bout – even with two title bouts in the main and co-main event. It appears the road to a welterweight title shot has been mapped out by Dana White live on the Pat McAfee Show.
“I think if Khamzat Chimaev wins this weekend we see him and Colby Covington next.” White stated when asked what would be next for Covington following the Masvidal bout, “So I have a fight coming up on ABC. And in a perfect world, if everything plays out right, I would love to do, ya know, Khamzat vs. Colby, if Khamzat should win on Saturday night.”
Covington most recently defeated the aforementioned Masvidal at UFC 272, also being in the news recently for Masvidal’s assault of Covington in Miami. If Chimaev can get past number 2 ranked contender Burns this Saturday, it appears Covington will be the final barrier between Khamzat and a welterweight title opportunity vs the winner of Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards’ projected title fight.
