Charles Oliveira Misses Weight, Stripped of UFC Lightweight Championship
Huge news coming out of today’s UFC 274 weigh-ins..
Today’s weigh-ins hit an iceberg with the news of UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira’s weight cut for his defense against Justin Gaethje tomorrow night at UFC 274 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
The champion made this tweet right before going to make the scales, but as soon as he stepped on, he soon found out he missed weight in their first attempt by a pound and then in his second attempt by .5 pounds.
In his final attempt, the champion Oliveira was not able to make weight by .5 pounds for his defense against Gaethje and so will have to forfeit the UFC Lightweight championship. The betting odds before the fight was cancelled saw/see Oliveira being the favorite at -170 while Gaethje came in as the underdog at +145 in their anticipated main event fight.
The main event will proceed, but Gaethje will be the only one eligible to win the UFC Lightweight championship, Oliveira will not be able to.
