Bryan Danielson Inspired Matt Riddle To Sign With WWE
Some movements reach the oddest places in pro wrestling.
Matt Riddle has been a welcome addition to WWE since his signing with the company. While working in NXT, he had numerous runs as a singles star as well as a tag wrestler, winning the NXT tag titles. Since joining the main roster, he initially had a run as a singles star, winning the US title at Elimination Chamber 2021. Riddle would then go on to team with Randy Orton as part of RK-Bro, a team well received by fans.
Speaking to Catch Club, Riddle would address what drove him to sign with WWE in 2018:
“For me, I always wanted to do pro wrestling but I felt because of my size, I was going to get overlooked. Especially earlier, like in the early 2000s, but then as I kept training in mixed martial arts and doing that, I saw the world of professional wrestling start to change.”
“The landscape changed, you know? Guys like Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) were beating Batista and Triple H, and they were the champs,” he added. “And when I saw that, I went, ‘You know what, I think this place has changed. I don’t think you have to be a giant; I think if you’re highly skilled, highly charismatic, you bring everything to the table, and you cross those t’s and dot those i’s, you’ll get an opportunity. And I always wanted to do this, I thought this was the time and I hit the ground running.”
Riddle to Catch Club
Riddle will journey to Smackdown this Friday along with his tag team partner Randy Orton. It appears the title unification may still happen between RK-Bro and The Uso’s.
