CM Punk NOT Relinquishing AEW World Title Due To Injury, Will Have Surgery
CM Punk has not relinquished the AEW World Title.
Earlier today we heard from CM Punk on Twitter that he had an announcement regarding the AEW World Title and would discuss it on AEW Rampage. Punk would limp to the ring with tears in his eyes and cut an emotional promo where he would announce he needed surgery and would be out of action for a while. He did confirm that he would be back and the injury as not career ending. The promo was vague to a degree, but Chris Jericho confirmed on commentary not once, but twice that Punk would have to relinquish the championship. However, it would be revealed following the promo that Punk will not relinquish the title and will face an interim AEW World champion at a later date.
There was a brief confusion after the promo as Punk mentioned telling Tony he was willing to relinquish the title, but the wording Punk used on Tony’s reply suggested he would keep the championship, however Jericho would clarify after a commercial break once again. Excalibur would reveal that Punk had not relinquished the title with news of AEW Dynamite featuring a Battle Royal to decide the opponent for Jon Moxley later in the night with a future interim championship match at AEW Forbidden Door up for grabs!
