Sometimes in wrestling fans have to suspend their disbelief more than usual. This usually comes in the form of supernatural gimmicks that get over. One gimmick that got incredibly over for being utterly ridiculous was Broken Matt Hardy, while the character started out in IMPACT, we saw it in both WWE and AEW.
While speaking Talk is Jericho, Chris Jericho talked bout Matt Hardy’s debut in AEW. He revealed that Tony Khan was furious at him after Hardy teleported throughout his debut.
“Tony was so mad at me. That was the one thing that we were able to squeak through the goalposts of the supernatural wrestling. Afterwards, he was like, ‘I never should have allowed that’.”

Obviously, Tony Khan isn’t interested in overly hokey gimmicks being used in AEW and while there are a lot of comedy gimmicks there is few legitimate supernatural gimmicks in AEW, well outside Danhausen’s curses of course.
