On last night’s edition of AEW Rampage we saw an emotional promo from CM Punk where he revealed he will have to have surgery to fix an injury and will be out for a little while. He was willing to relinquish the title but Tony Khan refused to let him do that and as such, there will be an interim champion crowned in the meantime.
With the announcement of the interim title came confusion, mainly due to Chris Jericho’s commentary regarding the matter. AEW have now released a statement clarifying the plans to declare an interim champion:
