CM Punk Discusses Tony Khan’s Refusal To Vacate The AEW World Title “Under Any Circumstances”

Tony Khan is not Vince McMahon.

Over the last 3 years, a lot has been made regarding the booking in AEW. Tony Khan has done an incredible job as the booker of the promotion, despite what MJF may think. While WWE have continued to be criticised for their lack of long term storyline amongst other issues with the promotion. One choice that has confused many fans is the decision not to strip CM Punk of the AEW World Title while he recovers from surgery on his foot.

While speaking on the “AEW Road to Kansas City” special that aired this week, CM Punk revealed that Tony Khan did not allow him to relinquish the AEW World Title.

“I probably wasn’t as clear as I should have been. I offered to relinquish the title, but Tony told me that under no circumstances was I allowed to do that. It means a lot to me that this place as a whole believes in me enough to let me just go get fixed.”

Obviously, Tony isn’t looking to take the championship off Punk unless he can be pinned in the middle of the ring for the title. An interim title will be made and a champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door.
