Sasha Banks Reportedly Released From WWE Contract
Sasha Banks, one of WWE’s biggest stars, has been granted her release according to a report from Raj Giri. Banks is one of the biggest crossover stars in the company as the seven-time Women’s Champion has crossed over into acting recently. Banks is best known for her role as Koska Reeves in the Disney+ hit show The Mandalorian.
Banks had recently been suspended alongside tag team partner Naomi after they walked out following a creative meeting on Monday Night Raw. It remains to be seen whether or not the release is conditional and which party decided it was time to part ways.
Banks is one of the most integral female talents in WWE history, as her run as NXT Women’s Champion brought women’s wrestling to the forefront of the promotion. Banks broke many boundaries for women, including becoming the first woman of color to main event WrestleMania when she defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 37 in Tampa. She became the first woman to headline a WWE Pay Per View program when she and Charlotte Flair wrestled inside Hell in a Cell in 2016. She is one of only four superstars to accomplish the “Women’s Grand Slam,” collecting all four major belts.
Sasha Banks, whose real name is Mercedes Varnado, is unlikely to remain inactive long. Assuming that there’s the traditional 90-day no-compete, she is unable to appear on a rival professional wrestling promotion for approximately three months. Of course, there still is major Hollywood interest if that’s the route she would choose to go.
